Design Guidelines & Levels of Service (Ministry of Transportation)

Slopes & Levels of Service:
  • Level of Service 1-2: Slope up to 15%. The recommended standard for parking facilities.
  • Level of Service 3: Slope of 15%-17%. Permitted only in exceptional cases due to site constraints.
  • Above 17%: Does not meet standard design guidelines for passenger vehicles.
Transition Sections:

Per Ministry of Transportation guidelines, transition sections must be designed at slope changes to prevent vehicle undercarriage scraping. The standard transition length is approximately 3 meters, at half the main slope.
